A devotion by a bloggy friend

I have just read this devotion over at One Day At A Time and really wanted to share it with you all.

1 Peter 5:8
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

Being aware of the enemy is a very important part of winning a war. We are at war daily with the devil, the world, and sin. If we allow ourselves to get so confident in our own abilities we will have a tendency to become complacent and less aware of the enemy and his schemes. Each new morning brings a spiritual war. The devil is searching for a way to destroy us and our lives, so we must be alert at all times. We cannot resist what we are not aware of. In James4:7 we are reminded to submit ourselves to God and to resist the devil, and he will flee from us. God would not have said this to us if it were impossible for us. How do we resist? We begin each day communicating with God and reading His word, seeking His direction for the day. Our enemy is a defeated enemy, Jesus defeated him in His life, death and resurrection. He destroyed his power over those who believe in Jesus. If our minds are filled with God's word and truth we will see the weapons of the enemy for what they are-lies. Lies that cause us to fear, to lose hope, weaken our faith, change our focus and direction. If we are spiritually alert we can be aware of the power of the enemy and his lies; and they will not catch us off guard. We must have our armor on and be prepared for battle each day. Ephesians 6:10

One thing I'd like to add is to beware of having a set image of the devil in your mind. He can turn up in any different way, speak through many different avenues (TV, radio, media, even other people....) in the hope of catching us off guard. Put your faith in God and He will lead you the right way, and help you discern what is of Him.

right on. I forget we're in a battle, a war. It feels like a war sometimes. But He is the victor. :} Thanks for sharing this. Sarah

Amen, Ephiany, thanks for sharing this. A lot of the time we give the devil just too much credit!!!

Blessings!
